Configure Work Types

  • Updated

This article explains how to add and manage work types.

AWork Type in OnePlan is a category that defines the way work is done, such as with different scheduling methods and processes. It helps in organizing and categorizing work in a project, making it easier to manage and track.

By default, the OnePlan Work Types include Tasks, Risks, Issues, Backlogs, Schedules, and Key Decisions. The Work Types are configurable to align to your business needs. When looking at the Work Plan pages, views are saved for that specific Work Type. The additional Work Type items show in Timesheets and My Work.

Go to the Admin pages, select Work Plan in the navigation.

Note

When the Backlog List App is added to your OnePlan group, a new work type called Backlog gets created automatically. The fields and views are also added.

Add Work Types

To create a new Work Type:

  1. Go to Work Plan > Work Types.

  2. Click the New Type button (+). The Add Work Type form will open.

  3. Enter a Name for the new Work Type.

  4. Select the Allowed Parents for the new Work Type. Allowed Parents are Work Types that can be parent items for the current Work Type in the Work Planner. This allows you to create hierarchies in the Work Planner.

    Note

In order for the new Work Type to be an Allowed Parent for itself, you need to create the Work Type, then come back and add it as an Allowed Parent.

  5. If you want to configure auto-numbering for the Work Type:

    1. Enter a prefix for the Work Type. For example, QST for a Questions Work Type.

    2. Enter the starting value for the auto-numbering. For example, 100. So, in this example, Question Work Items will be auto-assigned IDs starting with QST-100.

      Note

Work Type IDs can be applied to existing work items if you run a Recalculate in your Work Plan. The Recalculate feature is available from the ellipsis menu in the Work Plan toolbar.

  6. Click Add to create the new Work Type.
