Save a Baseline for Selected Tasks

  • Updated

This article explains how to save a baseline for selected tasks in your Work Plan. Saving a baseline for only certain tasks lets you update part of your schedule without re‑baselining the entire project.

What you will accomplish
You will learn how to save a baseline that captures data for specific tasks, giving you flexibility when changes affect only part of the schedule.

Requirements

To save a baseline in OnePlan, you must have:

  • Global Permissions: Team Member, Contributor, Manager, or Owner
  • Shared With Permissions: Contributor or Owner
  • Access to the Plan and Work Plan
  • Save Baseline permissions (configured by your administrator)

When to Use this Method

Use Save Baseline for Selected Tasks when you need to baseline only a portion of the schedule. Common scenarios include:

  • You added new tasks because the project’s scope changed.
  • New or updated tasks were inserted and linked into the schedule.
  • These tasks have no baseline values (Start, Finish, Effort, etc.).

Instead of re‑baselining the entire schedule, you can baseline only the affected tasks.

Instructions

Important
OnePlan allows admins to configure who can save the first baseline and who can save additional baselines. If you don’t have permission, you will see this error when trying to save a baseline:

See How to Configure and Manage Baselines for OnePlan Work Plans for details on how these permissions are configured.

  1. Select the tasks to baseline. You can select multiple tasks by holding down the CTRL key and clicking.
  2. Open the Save Baseline form. Click the ellipsis (...) in the Work Plan toolbar, then select Save Baseline. The Save Baseline form will open.

What Happens After Saving

Baseline Fields are Created

OnePlan creates a set of baseline fields that store the values captured at the moment you saved the baseline. These fields let you compare current data to your original plan. Each tracked value (Start, Finish, Effort, etc.) will have a matching baseline field.

To view these fields in your Work Plan view:

  1. Open the Columns menu.
  2. Search for the baseline name. You will see new baseline versions of the captured fields.
  3. Drag and drop the fields into your Work Plan view.

You can Display Baselines in the Gantt View

You can view all your saved baselines directly in the Gantt chart. The Gantt view shows every baseline saved for the plan at the same time. You cannot choose individual baselines to display.

  1. Open the Gantt chart. Click Gantt in the Work Plan toolbar. The Gantt chart panel will open.
  2. Click Options and select Baseline (Gantt).

The Gantt will display all saved baselines at once.
Each baseline appears as a gray bar beneath the main task bar.
Hover over any baseline bar to see which baseline it represents and view details.

You can Overwrite a Baseline

If you save to the same baseline again, OnePlan will overwrite the previous values with the new snapshot.
