Direct Answer: How to Use Quick Edit for Work Items in OnePlan
To use Quick Edit for a work item in OnePlan, right-click the work item in the Work Plan List and select Quick Edit from the contextual menu. The Quick Edit dialog opens with General, Resources, Dependencies, Notes, and Files tabs, giving you a fast way to review and update a work item without opening the more detailed Advanced Edit dialog.
What This Article Covers: Quick Edit
This article explains each tab in the Quick Edit dialog for a work item: General, Resources, Dependencies, Notes, and Files. Quick Edit is a lighter-weight alternative to Advanced Edit, intended for fast updates rather than a full, type-by-type breakdown of resource assignments.
What you will accomplish
By the end of this article, you will be able to open Quick Edit for any work item and review or update its general information, resources, dependencies, notes, and files.
Before You Begin: Quick Edit
- A OnePlan account with edit access to the Work Plan.
- If you need to see resource assignments broken out by Work, Material, and Cost type, use How to Use Advanced Edit for Work Items in OnePlan instead.
Why This Matters: Quick Edit
Fast access to common fields
Quick Edit gives you one dialog for the fields you update most often — schedule information, resources, dependencies, notes, and files — without opening the full Advanced Edit dialog.
A Work-only Resources tab
Quick Edit's Resources tab only shows Work type resources assigned to the item. It does not display Material or Cost type resource assignments — use Advanced Edit to see and manage those.
Step-by-Step: Using Quick Edit for Work Items in OnePlan
Task: Open Quick Edit for a Work Item
Next to the desired task, click ☰ > Quick Edit.
Task: Review General Information
The General tab shows general work item information. You configure this form via the Work Type form configuration. See Configure Work Type Forms for more information.
In this example, the task information is organized into:
- Task Information — Name, Health Status, Charge Type, Status, Priority, and a Complete checkbox.
- Task Description — A rich text field for describing the work item.
- Task Schedule — Start, Due, Deadline Date, and % Done.
- Task Effort — Effort, Timesheet Hours, and Remaining Effort.
- Task Financials — Estimated Cost and other financial fields associated with the work item.
Task: Manage Resources from Quick Edit
Use the Resources tab to see resources assigned to the item, listed with Resource Name and Units columns.
Note: The Resources tab in Quick Edit only shows Work type resources. It does not display Material or Cost type resource assignments. For a full breakdown of resources by type, use How to Use Advanced Edit for Work Items in OnePlan instead of Quick Edit.
Task: Manage Dependencies
Use the Dependencies tab to see a summary of the item's relationships, organized into Parent, Predecessors, and Successors sections. Each entry shows the related item's number, name, date, and status.
Note: For adding or removing predecessor and successor relationships in detail, see Task Dependencies and How to Use Advanced Edit for Work Items in OnePlan.
Task: Add Notes
Use the Notes tab to add and edit rich text notes on the item as needed, using the formatting toolbar for bold, italic, underline, font size, text color, highlight, and bullet or numbered lists.
Task: Manage Files
Use the Files tab to view and manage files linked to the item. Click the + icon to add a file, then select from the drop-down. Linked files are listed with a Display Name you can click to open them.
