Portfolio Filtering Behavior in Plan Views

  • Updated

This article provides examples of how the advanced filters behave in saved views in OnePlan Areas/Portfolios.

Note

Starting June 27, 2025, the new advanced filtering feature will be enabled for all customers. If you have saved views that use the old filtering system, those views will no longer work. To restore functionality, you will need to update your views using the new filtering interface.

See Filter Your Portfolio for full instructions on constructing filters using the updated interface.

Existing Views with Filters (using old filters)

When using the new filtering capability, some existing views may not display any data. This happens because not all plans and their parent plans have values assigned in the filtered fields.

You need to edit the filters and uncheck the Show Hierarchy option for the data to be visible.

Note

Disabling Show Hierarchy will remove the hierarchical view. To view hierarchy data without Show Hierarchy, use the Group feature instead.

Creating New Filters - Hierarchy Display Behavior

When applying new filters, the display of hierarchical data depends on the availability of values in the filtered fields for both parent and child plans.

Hierarchy Display Rules

  • Hierarchy is shown only if both the parent and its children have values in the filtered fields.

  • In the example below, child plans are excluded because the parent does not have Business Unit set to IT.

  • If a child plan is missing data in the filtered field, only the parent will be displayed.

  • If the parent is missing data and Show Hierarchy is enabled, the view will be blank. Hierarchical relationships are displayed only if all related records (parent and children) meet the filter criteria.

  • If the parent is missing data and Show Hierarchy is disabled, the view will show individual records that meet the filter criteria, regardless of their hierarchical relationships.

To view parent plans when Show Hierarchy is disabled, use the Group feature and update the selected Plan Types to include the child plans.

Filter Behavior with Specific Plan Types

Filters can be applied to specific plan types. When this is done:

  • Only the selected plan types are affected by the filter.

  • Other plan types will still appear in the view because the filter does not apply to them.

  • If Show Hierarchy is enabled, these unaffected plan types will continue to display as part of the hierarchy.
