What Are Plan Insights?
Plan Insights highlight plan-level conditions that may require attention. They help surface missing information, potential issues, or confirmation that required standards are being met.
Insights appear in the Reporting tab within a plan and are grouped under customizable categories. Each Insight evaluates plan or task data based on defined rules and displays a message when those conditions are met—or not met.
Plan Insights help organizations:
- Encourage consistent planning practices
- Improve overall plan quality
- Identify risks or gaps early
- Measure compliance across a portfolio
To view Insights on a plan:
Open a plan → Reporting → Insights
Where Plan Insights Are Configured
Plan Insights are configured by Plan Type, not by individual plans.
- Open a plan.
- Navigate to Reporting → Insights.
- Click the Edit Plan Insights (gear icon).
This opens the Plan Insights configuration panel for the plan’s current Plan Type.
The configuration panel displays:
- All configured Plan Insights for the Plan Type
- Insight Categories and how Insights are grouped
- Insight rules, triggers, and messaging
Changes made here apply to all plans of the selected Plan Type.
Understanding Insight Organization
Plan Insights are structured in three layers:
- Plan Type – Determines which plans the Insight applies to
- Category – Groups related Insights under a heading
- Insight – Defines the rule, trigger level, and message
Optionally, both Categories and Insights can be scoped to specific Insight Steps, which align with the plan’s workflow stages.
Create a Plan Insight Category
Categories help organize related Plan Insights under meaningful headings, such as Compliance, Financial Readiness, or Resource Planning.
- Select the Plan Type the category will apply to.
(Optional) Select Insight Steps to limit when the category appears.
Insight Steps are predefined by Plan Type and apply to all Insights within the category.
- Click Add Category.
- Complete the Add Category form:
- Category Name – Enter a clear, descriptive title.
- Click Add.
The new category will now appear for the selected Plan Type.

OnePlan includes several pre‑configured Plan Insights that can be used out of the box. This includes:

| Plans should have a Resource Plan | Verifies resourcing |
| Plans should have a Work Plan | Verifies task planning |
