What This Article Covers: Team Creation
This article explains how to create a new team from the Resource Center, including the fields on the Create Team dialog’s General tab and how to add members before saving.
What you will accomplish: By the end of this article, you will be able to create a new team in the Resource Center with its core settings and members in place, ready for resource allocation.
Before You Begin: Creating a Team
- A OnePlan account whose Enterprise Security Group includes the Manage Resources permission — this is required to create and manage teams in the Resource Center. Owner or Administrator permissions are not necessarily required.
- The resources you plan to add as team members should already exist in OnePlan. See How to Add Named Resources in OnePlan or How to Add and Categorize Generic Resources in OnePlan.
Why This Matters: Team Creation
Teams group resources for planning
A team lets you group resources — by department, division, or scrum team, for example — so they can be assigned to Work Items and Resource Plans as a single unit instead of individually. Creating the team is the first step; once it exists, you can allocate member resources to it by a fixed percentage or a time-phased schedule. See How to Allocate Resources to Teams in OnePlan.
Cost, Rate, and Calendar apply at the team level
Setting Cost, Rate, and Calendar on the team itself — separate from the cost, rate, and calendar values already set on individual member resources — lets you plan and cost the team as a unit.
