Why This Matters: Creating Work Fields

Work Fields capture the metadata your team needs on a work item — status, effort, assignee, due date, and any custom attributes. When creating a Work Field, you configure general settings that apply to all field types (name, description, required/read-only, Work Type availability) and field-specific settings that vary by type (character limits, decimal places, choices, and so on).

Step-by-Step: Creating a New Work Field

Task: Create the Field

  1. Open the Work Type Form Editor for the desired Work Type. See Work Fields - Access Work Fields Configuration.
  2. Select Create New. The New Work Field form opens. createnew.png
  3. Complete the General tab of the form:
    • Field Name — Enter a name for the field.
    • Description — Enter a description of the field’s function, or how users should interact with it. This appears as a tooltip.
    • Internal Name — Auto-populates once you save the new field; displays the internal (back-end) field name.
    • Field Type — Select the field type. See Work Fields - Types of Work Fields.
    • Default Value — Enter a default value, if applicable.
    • Required — Check the checkbox if the field is required.
