OnePlan Solution Templates - Overview

Direct Answer: What Are Solution Templates in OnePlan?

A solution template in OnePlan is the starting configuration for an entire OnePlan group. Every solution template is built on the OnePlan Platform template, a large, all-encompassing template, and each solution turns different components on or off to fit an approach such as strategic portfolio management, agile delivery, or professional services. You select a solution template when you create your group. You can also choose to include sample data from the template so you can explore OnePlan features immediately.

What This Article Covers: Solution Templates

This article explains what solution templates are, the ways to reach the template selector, the templates available, and how to choose between them. For the steps to create a group, see the articles linked in What to Do Next: Solution Templates.

What you will accomplish: By the end of this article, you will understand what a solution template is, where you select one, and which template fits your organization.

Who This Article Is For: Solution Templates

  • Prospective customers evaluating OnePlan through a trial.
  • Administrators creating a new OnePlan group for their organization, team, or department.
  • Customers who want to understand which solution template a group was built from.

Why This Matters: Solution Templates

The template shapes your whole group

The solution template you select is applied to the whole OnePlan group, not to a single plan or feature. Because each solution turns on the components that fit its approach, choosing the template that matches how your organization works gives you a starting point built for that approach, so you spend less time configuring and more time planning.

Sample data helps you explore

When you select Include sample data from template (or Load sample data to explore OnePlan features in the trial flow), your new group includes example plans such as Objectives, Key Results, Projects, Epics, Engagements, Applications, and Products. The sample data is the same for every solution template, and the template you choose determines which areas are shown. This lets you see how the solution looks and behaves before you add your own information.

Understanding Solution Templates in OnePlan

Context: How Solution Templates Relate to the OnePlan Platform Template

The OnePlan Platform template contains the full range of OnePlan capabilities. Each solution template, such as Strategic Portfolio Management or Professional Service, starts from that same Platform template and enables only the components that fit the solution. This means solutions share one underlying product: a capability you see in one solution is the same capability in another, and a component that is turned off in your solution is not missing from OnePlan, only not enabled in your group.

Choosing the OnePlan Platform template itself gives you the all-encompassing version, with the full range of components available.

You can see how a solution turns components on or off in the left navigation. For example, a group created from Strategic Execution Management shows Strategy and Status Reports, while areas such as Intake, Benefits, Risks, Services, Products, Applications, and Enterprise Portfolio are hidden. After your group is created, administrators can show or hide areas using Setup in the left navigation. See Create and Manage Areas.

Context: Where You Select a Template

There are two ways to reach the template selection step, depending on how you start.

From the OnePlan website (trial)

  1. Go to the Solutions page at oneplan.ai/solutions and select Learn more on a solution.
  2. On the solution page, select Try it now.
  3. On the trial page, enter your First Name, Last Name, Work Email, Phone Number, Company Name, and Country/Region, add any questions or comments, and select Get Started.
  4. On the solution gallery, select Get Started on the solution you want to try.
  5. On the Create your group to begin page, enter a Group name, select Load sample data to explore OnePlan features if you want example data, and select Create Group.

Because you chose your solution in the gallery, the template is already selected when you reach the group creation page.

From the template selector in OnePlan

Go to my.oneplan.ai/home/new. If your organization uses a regional OnePlan address, replace my with your region, such as ca.oneplan.ai or au.oneplan.ai. On the Create your group to begin page, enter a Group name, select the template you want from the Select Template list, select Include sample data from template if you want example data, and select Create Group.

After you create the group, OnePlan opens the Getting Started page of your new site.

You might use this information in OnePlan to:

  • Decide which solution to try after reading about OnePlan on the website.
  • Pick the right template when an administrator creates a new group for a department or business unit.
  • Explain to a colleague why a group looks the way it does, based on the template it started from.
  • Compare the solution descriptions to decide which template best matches how your teams plan and deliver work.

Frequently Asked Questions: Solution Templates

Q: What is a solution template in OnePlan? A: In OnePlan, a solution template is the starting configuration for an entire OnePlan group. You select it when you create the group, and it determines how the site is set up for your organization’s approach to planning and delivery.

Q: Are OnePlan solution templates separate products? A: No. In OnePlan, every solution template is built on the same OnePlan Platform template, and each solution turns different components on or off. The underlying capabilities are the same across solutions.

Q: Why does my OnePlan group show the Platform template as its template name? A: In OnePlan, the Template Name and Template Version fields show the template your group was created from. You can find them by selecting the settings (gear) icon, then General, then the Group tab. Because solution templates are built on the OnePlan Platform template, a group created from a solution can show the Platform template name.

Q: Where do I select a solution template in OnePlan? A: In OnePlan, you select a template in the solution gallery when you start a trial from the OnePlan website, or from the Select Template list at my.oneplan.ai/home/new (or your regional address) when you create a group directly.

Q: What does “Include sample data from template” do in OnePlan? A: In OnePlan, selecting Include sample data from template adds example plans to the new group so you can explore its features. The same sample data is available with every solution template, and the template you choose determines which areas are shown. In the trial flow, the same option is labeled Load sample data to explore OnePlan features.

Q: Which OnePlan solution template should I choose? A: In OnePlan, choose the template that matches your main goal: Strategic Portfolio Management to align investments with strategy, Strategic Execution Management to connect strategy and OKRs to execution, Adaptive Portfolio Management to blend Waterfall and Agile, or Resource Planning to balance demand and capacity.

Q: Why does a solution have a different name on the OnePlan website? A: Some solutions use a slightly different name on the OnePlan website and in the trial solution gallery than in the template selector. For example, Strategic Execution Management in OnePlan is called Strategy Execution Management on the website.
