Why This Matters: Key Results in OnePlan

Context: What a Key Result Is

A Key Result in OnePlan is a measurable outcome that shows progress toward an Objective. Each Key Result has a timeline and a metric, such as a target number and a current number, so leaders can see how close the organization is to achieving the Objective.

Context: How Key Results Connect to Work

Projects, Epics, Engagements, Products, and Applications can be associated with a Key Result to show which work supports it. Key Results appear beneath their Objective in the Strategy list, with associated work shown beneath each Key Result.

Step-by-Step: Creating a Key Result in OnePlan

Task: Create a Key Result

Starting from the OnePlan left navigation:

  1. Select Strategy.
  2. Find the Objective the Key Result supports.
  3. Select the blue Add button on that Objective’s row.
  4. Select New Key Result.
  5. In the Add New Key Result window, enter a name in the Name field (for example, Complete quarterly alignment reviews with all BU).
  6. (Optional) In the Create your key result with Sofia box, describe the Key Result, upload a document, or use voice input. Select AI Fields to choose which fields Sofia populates.
  7. Select Add Plan. OnePlan adds the Key Result beneath its Objective and opens its quick edit form on the right side of the screen. Create KR.png

Note: AI-generated content may not be accurate. Review any fields that Sofia populates before you rely on them.

You can also add a Key Result from the Objective itself. Open the Objective’s Details, go to Associated Plans, and select New Item next to Associated Key Results. Create KR from Objective Details.png

Task: Set the Key Result Timeline and Metric

Starting from the Key Result’s quick edit form, or from the Strategy list:

  1. If the form is not open, select the Key Result name in the Strategy list and make sure the Details tab is selected. You can also select the contextual menu on the Key Result’s row and choose Details.
  2. In the Key Result Information section, confirm the Objective the Key Result supports, and set fields such as State, Status, Manager, Executive Sponsor, Priority, and Business Unit. The Business Unit field associates the Key Result with a business unit.
  3. In the Key Result Timeline section, set the Estimated Start and Estimated End dates.
  4. In the Key Result Metric section, complete the metric fields: - Unit of Measure — The unit the metric is measured in, such as %. - Target Type (required, and the only required field on a Key Result) — Choose Increase if you want the value to go up to reach the target, or Decrease if you want it to go down. - Target Number — The value you want to reach, such as 100. - Target to Date — A number you enter for the value expected by now. Values in this field are summed when they are totaled across plans. - Current Number — The value you have reached so far, such as 25. You enter this number manually. - Current Metric — The progress toward the target, shown as a percentage such as 25%. OnePlan calculates this value, so you do not enter it. For an Increase target, it is Current Number divided by Target Number, multiplied by 100. For a Decrease target, it is Target Number divided by Current Number, multiplied by 100.
  5. In the Key Result Status section, enter Accomplishments and Additional Comments to describe progress.
