Tabular Data Integrations

  • Updated

There are several different types of tabular data integrations that can be used to import data into OnePlan.

The following type of data can be imported this way:

  • Plans - Create, and update Project names, statuses, and more by using the Tabular Data to Plans integration.
  • Resources - Add and update resources, departments, and more by using the Tabular Data to Resource Center integration.
  • Resource Plans - Add resources to cost types within your plans by using the Tabular Data to Resource Planner integration.
  • Financial Plans - Add financial information across multiple cost types by using the Tabular Data to Financial Plan integration.
  • Time Off - Add approved time off information for resources by using the Tabular Data to Time Off integration.

OnePlan can also create custom tabular data integrations that can fix any customized logic or scenario.

Please contact your OnePlan representative for more information about your options.

Use Cases

The tabular data integrations have the following popular use cases:

Centralized Resource Import

  • Use Case: Resource records (names, roles, departments, locations, etc.) are loaded from the source file into OnePlan.
  • Value: Maintains a single source of truth for resource data, avoiding manual entry and ensuring consistency across planning tools.

Capacity Planning at Scale

  • Use Case: Available or "actuals" hours data from the source file is synced to OnePlan for accurate capacity modeling across departments or geographies.
  • Value: Enables strategic staffing decisions based on actual availability, especially helpful for globally distributed teams.

Improved Resource Capacity Planning

  • Use Case: By leveraging the integrated time off data from the tabular source, the project manager can immediately see which resources will be unavailable due to vacations, leaves, or other absences.
  • Value: This visibility allows the project manager to allocate available resources more accurately, avoid scheduling conflicts, and make proactive decisions about resource substitutions or timeline adjustments—ultimately increasing the likelihood of on-time project delivery.

Automated Project Data Sync

  • Use Case: Project (called Plans in OnePlan) records (IDs, names, statuses etc.) are regularly pulled from the source file to populate or update portfolios.
  • Value: Keeps the portfolio view current without needing manual updates; ensures OnePlan reflects most up to date.

Multi-System Project Consolidation

  • Use Case: Projects managed in multiple systems are aggregated in the source file, then synced to OnePlan for a unified view.
  • Value: Reduces siloed reporting and improves executive decision-making across a diverse project ecosystem.

Strategic Alignment Validation

  • Use Case: Project metadata from the source file is matched to strategic goals in OnePlan.
  • Value: Helps ensure that project investments are aligned to strategic priorities and makes misaligned work visible.

Budget Import & Synchronization

  • Use Case: Budget data by project is pulled from the source file and loaded into OnePlan.
  • Value: Enables planning teams to track and forecast spend against budgets without spreadsheet wrangling.

Actuals Tracking

  • Use Case: Actual financials from ERP or accounting systems stored in the source file are loaded into OnePlan.
  • Value: Facilitates budget vs actual comparisons and real-time financial monitoring at both project and portfolio levels.

Cost-To-Resource Rollups

  • Use Case: The source file provides cost center or role-based cost data that’s mapped to projects in OnePlan.
  • Value: Allows financial planners to assess true resource costs and optimize budgets accordingly.

Advanced Analytics & Decision Support

  • Use Case: Tabular data is brought into OnePlan to power custom dashboards showing KPIs like cost per project, resource utilization, and ROI.
  • Value: Delivers executive-level insights without needing BI tools or custom reports all within OnePlan.

Subscription

The tabular data integrations are licensed individually as they import different types of data with different processing and volume requirements.

Setup Requirements

Before setting up the integration, make sure:

  • The necessary source file is created with the correct fields.
  • The file is accessible (e.g., firewall rules, credentials, etc.) by the integration.

Source Data

The source data must be in a comma separated file (CSV).

Microsoft Excel and many other tools, including reporting solutions, support creating, updating, or exporting data to comma separated files.

Each integration has a sample template file available in the setup article at the bottom of the page.

Source File Location

Files can be loaded from these sources:

  • SharePoint Online (document library)
  • OneDrive (folder)
  • SFTP

SharePoint Online

If you are planning to use SharePoint Online, please review the authentication options

SFTP

The SFTP site must be hosted by the party that owns the source data. OnePlan can provide source IPs for firewall rules to connect to the source file.

Setup

To set up the integration, find the articles below:

  • Plans - Create, and update Project names, statuses, and more by using the Tabular Data to Plans integration.
  • Resources - Add and update resources, departments, and more by using the Tabular Data to Resource Center integration.
  • Resource Plans - Add resources to cost types within your plans by using the Tabular Data to Resource Planner integration.
  • Financial Plans - Add financial information across multiple cost types by using the Tabular Data to Financial Plan integration.
  • Time Off - Add approved time off information for resources by using the Tabular Data to Time Off integration.

Next Steps

Once the integration is installed:

  1. Adjust the field mappings to import specific fields.
  2. Set up scheduled jobs (automated data syncs).
  3. Import your data.
  4. Begin managing your projects and resources in OnePlan.

Mind the Gap

  • These integrations only import data into OnePlan.
  • There is no tabular integration to import schedules (tasks) into plans. OnePlan has a built-in feature that can import schedules one by one.
  • There is no tabular integration to import timesheets into OnePlan.

Troubleshooting

In case you see an error message in the log, please review the most common OneConnect errors and specific errors related to this integration first.
