This article explains how to configure the Reorganize Plan action for Plan Automations in OnePlan. Use this action to automatically move a plan to a new parent plan and change its plan type when an automation is triggered.
What you will accomplish
By the end of this article, you will be able to configure a Reorganize Plan action to move a plan to a new location and change its plan type as part of a plan automation.
Requirements
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- A OnePlan account with Licensed permissions
- Access to the Portfolio Area
- Permissions to create Plan Automations
- A Plan Automation trigger already configured
See the following trigger articles if needed:
Background
The Reorganize Plan action allows you to move a plan into a different location in OnePlan by:
- Changing the plan’s Plan Type
- Assigning a new Parent Plan
Reorganizing a plan:
- Moves the plan and all of its data into the new plan type and location
- Does not retain historical information about the plan’s original type or location
This action is different from Plan Conversion:
- Reorganize moves the existing plan
- Convert creates a new plan and leaves the original in place
Because reorganizing permanently changes the plan’s structure and context, this action is commonly used in governance‑driven automation scenarios.
Instructions
Add the Reorganize Plan Action
- In the Plan Automations editor, select Add Automation Action.
- Choose Reorganize Plan from the list.
- The Edit Reorganize Plan panel opens on the right side of the screen.
Select the Destination Plan Type

- This determines the structure, fields, and process steps applied to the plan after reorganization.
Note
Available plan types depend on your OnePlan configuration and permissions.
Select the New Parent Plan
- Click the Edit icon next to the the Select Parent Plan field, and choose the plan that will become the new parent.
- This determines where the plan is placed in the OnePlan hierarchy.

Save the Action
- Review the plan type and parent plan selections.
- Select Update to save the Reorganize Plan action.
- When finished configuring the automation, select Save.
Important Considerations
Important
- Reorganizing a plan permanently moves it to the new plan type and location.
- No historical record of the plan’s previous type or location is retained.
- This action should be used intentionally and tested carefully, especially in portfolio‑level automations.
Next Steps
After configuring an Approval Task Workflow action, you can:
- Add additional actions to extend the automation:
- Add Filters to control when the automation runs. See Plan Automation Filters.
While there is no strict limit on the number of actions, we recommend keeping automations manageable to maintain optimal performance.
