Work Plan Automations - Configure an Update Work Item Action

Purpose

This article explains how to configure the Update Work Item action in Work Plan automations.
The Update Work Item action updates selected Work Item fields to set values when the automation is triggered.

How to Configure the Send Notification Action

  1. Click Add Automation Action > Select Update Work Item from the drop-down. The Edit Update Work Item panel will open on the right.
  2. Complete the form.
    • Assigned To: Select a recipient type from the drop-down. Options include:
      • Plan Field = Select a plan‑level user field. Any user assigned to that field will receive the notification.

      • Work Field = Select a work‑level user field. Any user assigned to that field will receive the notification.

      • Shared-With Level = Choose one or more Share-With permission levels. All users with the selected level(s) will receive the notification.

      • Specific User = Select one or more individual users to receive the notification.

      • Specific Team = Select one or more resource teams to receive the notification.

    • Update Work Item Field: Add the Work Fields you want to update and set the values you want to update the fields to.
      • Field = Choose the field you want to set.
      • Value = Enter the value you want applied. You may add multiple fields using Add Field.

  3. Click Update to save the automation.

If you’re finished configuring your automation, click Save to finalize it.
