Plan Automation Filters

  • Updated

This article explains how to configure Filters for Plan Automations in OnePlan. Filters allow you to control when a plan automation should run by defining conditions based on plan‑level fields.

What you will accomplish
By the end of this article, you will be able to configure plan‑level filters to ensure a plan automation runs only when specific conditions are met.

Requirements

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • A OnePlan account with Licensed permissions
  • Contributor or Owner access to the plan
  • Access to the Portfolio Area (if configuring automations for all plans of a plan type)

See OnePlan Plan Permission Hierarchy for more details.

Background

Filters allow you to narrow when a Plan Automation runs by evaluating conditions based on plan‑level metadata. This helps ensure automations execute only for relevant plans and at the appropriate time in the plan lifecycle.

Unlike Work Automations, Plan Automations use only plan‑level fields for filtering. Examples include:

  • Process Step
  • Plan Type
  • Portfolio
  • Owner
  • Start or End Dates

Filters are optional but are commonly used to add precision and governance to plan‑level automation logic.

Instructions

Open the Filters Panel

  1. Open the Plan Automations editor.
  2. In the automation flow, select Filters.
  3. The Filters panel opens on the right side of the screen.

Add a Plan Filter Rule

(for example, Process StepPortfolioPlan Type, or Owner).
  2. Select a comparison operator
    (for example, equalsnot equalscontainsgreater than).
  3. Enter or select the value to match.

Click Add Rule and repeat these steps to add additional filter rules as needed.

Use AND / OR Logic

  • AND – All rules must be true for the automation to run.
  • OR – At least one rule must be true for the automation to run.

To create more complex logic:

  1. Select Add group.
  2. Build nested rule sets using AND / OR as needed.

Save Your Filters
