Direct Answer: How to Connect Microsoft Copilot to OnePlan Using a Microsoft 365 Admin Connector
To connect Microsoft 365 Copilot directly to OnePlan, a Microsoft 365 administrator adds the OnePlan MCP Server as a custom connector under Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Copilot > Connectors, authorizes the connection, and makes the connector available to the appropriate users. Users then connect OnePlan from their Microsoft 365 Copilot source settings and enable it as a data source in supported Copilot chats. This organization-level method does not require creating and publishing a custom Copilot Studio agent.
Note: The OnePlan MCP Server is available in preview to approved customers. To request access, contact your Customer Success Manager.
What This Article Covers: Direct Microsoft 365 Copilot Connection
OnePlan supports more than one way to connect the OnePlan MCP Server to Microsoft 365 Copilot. This article describes the direct connector method, where a Microsoft 365 administrator makes the OnePlan MCP Server available as an organization-level Copilot data source.
To connect through a custom Copilot Studio agent instead, see How to Connect Microsoft Copilot to OnePlan Using Copilot Studio (Custom Agent).
What you will accomplish By the end of this article, the OnePlan MCP Server will be configured as an organization-level Microsoft 365 Copilot connector, and permitted users will be able to connect it to their OnePlan environment.
Which Method Should I Use: Connecting Microsoft Copilot to OnePlan
OnePlan supports two ways to connect Microsoft Copilot. This article covers the Microsoft 365 admin connector method. Choose the method that fits who configures it and how your users will work with OnePlan.
| Microsoft 365 admin connector — this article | Copilot Studio (custom agent) | |
|---|---|---|
| Best when | You want OnePlan available as a data source in Microsoft 365 Copilot without building an agent | You want a dedicated OnePlan agent with your own instructions and starter prompts, published to Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Teams |
| Configured by | A Microsoft 365 administrator | A Copilot Studio maker and a OnePlan group administrator |
| How users access OnePlan | They turn on OnePlan under Change data sources in Copilot chat | They chat with the published agent |
| App registration | Provided by OnePlan | You create it in OnePlan with a Client ID and Client Secret |
To use the Copilot Studio method, see How to Connect Microsoft Copilot to OnePlan Using Copilot Studio (Custom Agent).
Before You Begin: Connecting Microsoft 365 Copilot Directly to OnePlan
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- OnePlan MCP Server preview access approved for your organization
- Access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center with Global Administrator or the required AI Administrator permissions
- A Microsoft 365 Copilot environment that supports custom MCP connectors and data sources
- The required Microsoft 365 Copilot licensing for users who will use the connector
- The OnePlan MCP Server address for your region:
| Region | Server address |
|---|---|
| Global | https://my.oneplan.ai/mcp |
| Canada | https://ca.oneplan.ai/mcp |
| Australia | https://au.oneplan.ai/mcp |
| Europe | https://eu.oneplan.ai/mcp |
- The app registration reference ID provided by OnePlan
- Access to a OnePlan group where the app registration can be added
Note: This method uses a Microsoft Copilot app registration provided by OnePlan. It does not use the customer-created Client ID and Client Secret procedure required for the Copilot Studio method. Before configuring the connector, obtain the required app registration information from OnePlan and add the registration to at least one OnePlan group. The group you select during connector authorization must contain this app registration.
Note: Federated connectors are available to customers with an eligible commercial Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription. Connector availability can vary by tenant, license, Microsoft rollout, and administrator configuration. If OnePlan or Change data sources is unavailable, contact your Microsoft 365 administrator.
Why This Matters: Connecting OnePlan Without a Copilot Studio Agent
Context: Direct Connection Through Microsoft 365 Copilot
The direct connector method lets a Microsoft 365 administrator register the OnePlan MCP Server once, at the organization level. Eligible users then connect OnePlan from their Microsoft 365 Copilot source settings without using a custom Copilot Studio agent.
Context: Direct Connector Compared to Copilot Studio
With the Copilot Studio method, an administrator or maker creates an agent, adds the OnePlan MCP Server as a tool, and publishes the agent to Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Teams. Users interact with OnePlan through that agent.
With the direct connector method, an administrator registers the OnePlan MCP Server at the organization level, and eligible users connect OnePlan as a data source from supported Microsoft 365 Copilot experiences.
Context: What Copilot Can Do with OnePlan
After you connect the OnePlan MCP Server, Microsoft 365 Copilot can use the OnePlan tools available to the signed-in user. Depending on those tools and the user’s permissions, users can ask Copilot to find and work with plans, tasks, milestones, risks, resources, financials, and approvals. Users can only access the OnePlan information and actions their OnePlan permissions allow.

Troubleshooting: Microsoft 365 Copilot Connection to OnePlan
The OnePlan Connector Does Not Appear in Microsoft 365 Copilot
Confirm that:
- The OnePlan MCP connector was created successfully in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
- The connector is enabled for your Microsoft 365 account.
- You connected OnePlan from Settings > Sources.
- Your Microsoft 365 Copilot environment supports the configured MCP connector experience.
- Your account has the required Microsoft 365 Copilot license.
If the connector appears under Settings > Sources but cannot be selected in a chat, the data source experience may not yet be available in your tenant.
Authorization Fails When Connecting to OnePlan
Confirm that the app registration provided by OnePlan has been added to the OnePlan group you selected during authorization. The group must contain the app registration before you authorize the connector.
The Authorization Window Does Not Open
Your browser may be blocking the OAuth authentication window. Allow pop-ups for the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, then select Authorize again.
OnePlan Is Connected but Copilot Cannot Use It
A connector listed under Settings > Sources does not guarantee that every Microsoft 365 Copilot experience can use it. Confirm that:
- The connector is enabled for your account.
- OnePlan is enabled as a data source for the current chat, if required.
- The Microsoft 365 Copilot experience you are using supports configured MCP data sources.
- Your OnePlan account has access to the group and data you are requesting.
Frequently Asked Questions: Direct Microsoft 365 Copilot Connection
Q: Do I need to create a Copilot Studio agent to connect Microsoft 365 Copilot to OnePlan? A: In OnePlan, no. When your organization supports the direct connector method, a Microsoft 365 administrator can register the OnePlan MCP Server as an organization-level connector, and eligible users can connect OnePlan as a Microsoft 365 Copilot data source without a custom Copilot Studio agent.
Q: What is the difference between the direct connector and Copilot Studio methods? A: In OnePlan, the direct connector method registers the OnePlan MCP Server at the Microsoft 365 organization level so eligible users can connect it as a Copilot data source. The Copilot Studio method adds the OnePlan MCP Server as a tool on a custom agent that is published to Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Teams.
Q: Why does the app registration need to be added to a OnePlan group? A: In OnePlan, the app registration provided by OnePlan must belong to the group you select during connector authorization. If it does not, Microsoft 365 Copilot cannot complete the connection.
Q: Can I limit who can use the OnePlan MCP connector? A: Yes. In OnePlan, a Microsoft 365 administrator controls the availability of the OnePlan MCP connector and can make it available to selected users before deploying it more broadly.
Q: Why don’t I see Change data sources in Microsoft 365 Copilot? A: In OnePlan, the Change data sources option depends on your Microsoft 365 Copilot tenant, licensing, and Microsoft rollout. If it is unavailable, contact your Microsoft 365 administrator to confirm your organization has access to the required Copilot data source experience.
Q: Does connecting OnePlan give Copilot access to everything in OnePlan? A: No. In OnePlan, the OnePlan MCP Server operates within each user’s access and permissions. The information and actions available through Microsoft 365 Copilot depend on the user’s permissions and the tools exposed through the MCP connection.
